ACAud Members and Fellows receive a Certificate of Membership and Summary Code of Ethics and where appropriate, a Certificate of Competency for display in their practice.

ACAud conducts examinations to demonstrate the competence of its Members and maintains records to ensure that all Members remain competent.

Ordinary Members are entitled to use the letters MACAud and Fellows are entitled to use the letters FACAud.

Members are able to advise a client who is moving, of another clinician who is recognised by ACAud, thereby ensuring continuity of care and standards.

Members will benefit from co-ordinated national public awareness campaigns and an international standard conference every second year.

ACAud will represent its Membership on matters concerning the professional standards of hearing services in Australia.

Information for Student/Associate Members of ACAud

A student may apply for Student Membership of ACAud once they have documented evidence of enrolment in an approved course of study at an Australian tertiary education facility. (At present this is the Certificate IV Course in Audiometry or Graduate Certificate or higher in Audiometry from any Australian university.)  A student is not required to pay the application fee (at present $220.00) usually applicable to new Memberships.

If a Student Member is having difficulty in obtaining a supervisor, ACAud will, upon request, assist by placing an advertisement in the next issue of the Accord Magazine free of charge.

When a student’s studies are complete they will no longer be entitled to Student Membership Status.  It is the Member’s responsibility to notify ACAud in writing when their studies are complete and when they require to make a change to their Membership Status

A Student or Affiliate Member may request in writing to upgrade their membership to that of Associate Member.  They should include with their application a copy of their Certificate IV in Audiometry or Graduation Certificate from an Australian university for either undergraduate or graduate degree in Audiology plus a simple letter from each of their employer/s which must  state

§          That, in total, they have completed two out of the past four years in the industry

§          on a full time (30 hrs per week) basis

§           in a clinic performing hearing services, excepting normal leave time

§           Or the same amount of time on a pro-rata basis over the past four years.

Associate Membership is contingent upon the submission of a supervisory plan in the correct format and such plan subsequently being approved by ACAud. An Associate Member must be under supervision. A Supervisory Kit containing documentation for both supervisor and Associate to complete will be forwarded in order to embark on the two year supervisory period.  This plan is to be submitted to ACAud for approval. If the supervisor is not a Member of ACAud he/she will need to sign an ACAud Code of Ethics (Members have already signed this document).  Please note that the supervisory period may be lengthened but is not able to be shortened except under exceptional circumstances as outlined in the Constitution and By-Laws. The appropriate membership fees will apply. An Associate must have a letter from ACAud accepting the plan and the stating the date from which it is to commence. If such a letter is not received within approximately one month of posting the Member should contact the Secretariat immediately.

If at any time an Associate wishes to change or add an additional supervisor they must submit another supervisory plan to ACAud for approval.

For the year commencing 1st July 2005 to 30th June 2006 there is a requirement for Associate Members to attain 15 CEP Points per year and to submit quarterly supervisory reports jointly with their supervisor for the quarter commencing December 2005 plus a final report just prior to exam

If a Student Member does not have the prerequisites to progress to Associate Membership they may apply for Affiliate Membership until such time as they are ready to progress to Associate Membership.  The appropriate membership fees will apply.

On completion of the supervisory period the supervisor should write to ACAud stating that the Associate has completed the supervision and in the supervisor’s opinion the Associate is ready to sit the ACAud Examination for Ordinary Membership. The Associate should make written application to sit the examination and enclose a copy of the duly signed log books and payment of the relevant fee.  This fee is non-refundable.  On successful completion of the examination and fulfilment of membership criteria, a candidate may be eligible for Ordinary Membership. The appropriate membership fees will apply.

At this time the examination fee is $825.00 and the examination is held twice yearly at the OTEN Campus in Strathfield in Sydney.

Progression to various levels of membership is not automatic and will occur only if the various provisions of the Constitution, By-Laws and Appendices are met.

The information supplied is current but subject to change and should be checked from time to time to ensure that it remains current.
